MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — West Virginia held off Oklahoma in the final minutes of Saturday's game to snap a three-game losing streak.
The Mountaineers (10-12, 2-7) were led by Brandon Knapper in a 79-71 victory over Oklahoma (15-7, 3-6).
Knapper, a South Charleston native, came off the bench to score a career-high 25 points for the Mountaineers. The freshman led all scorers and was 7 of 10 from the filed and 4 of 6 from 3-point range.
The Mountaineers were dominant on the glass, out-rebounding the Sooners 46-30. A big reason for that margin was the play of freshman Derek Culver and senior Esa Ahmad, who both notched double-doubles.
Culver had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Ahmad had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Junior Wesley Harris added 13 points for WVU and also pulled down seven boards.
The Sooners were led by sophomore Brady Manek, who scored 18 points.
The Mountaineers will be back in action Monday when they travel to Lubbock to take on No. 16 Texas Tech.
