Coming off a 28-win season, the West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team will enter the 2017-18 season ranked inside the top 10.

The Mountaineers are ranked No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll that was released Thursday. WVU has spent 57 consecutive weeks ranked inside the top 25 in the coaches poll.

WVU was also picked to finish second behind Kansas in the preseason Big 12 coaches poll. The Mountaineers received one first place vote.

In 2017, the Mountaineers went 28-9 an advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Gonzaga.

WVU will be led by senior guard Jevon Carter. Carter averaged 13.5 points a game last season and averaged 16.6 points per game in six post season games. Heading into the 2017-18 campaign, Carter has been named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award watch list.

The Mountaineers will tip off the new season on Friday, Nov. 10, against Texas A&M in the Armed Forces Classic in Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany.
