Marshall Basketball: WKU hands Herd first C-USA loss

The Thundering Herd of Marshall suffered its first loss of the season in Conference USA on Monday.

Just a little over a week from beating the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky by one in Huntington, Marshall fell on the road in Bowling Green by a final of 68-59.

The loss sends Dan D'Antoni's crew to 12-7 on the season and 5-1 in C-USA play.

Jon Elmore's 17 points led the way while C.J. Burks dropped in 13 for the Herd.

Burks was honored earlier in the day as C-USA's Player of the Week after averaging 30 in wins over Florida Atlantic and Florida International.

Western, the preseason No. 1 in C-USA, moved to 10-9 overall and 3-3 in C-USA.

Marshall led by a 25-24 count at halftime in the hard-fought affair.

The Herd will hit the road Thursday night for a meeting with Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La for a showdown with the Bulldogs and then its off to Hattiesburg for a meeting against Southern Miss on Saturday.
