Marshall Basketball: Thundering Herd fight hard against Xavier

Marshall gave it a gallant effort on Tuesday night in Cincinnati against nationally-ranked Xavier.

CINCINNATI (WCHS-TV/WVAH-TV) - A slow start had Marshall scratching and clawing most of the night against No. 9 Xavier.

The Herd, though, fought hard and gave the nationally-ranked Musketeers all they wanted on their home floor.

In the end, Xavier pulled out an 81-77 victory.

The loss sends Marshall to 8-4 on the year. Xavier improved to 11-1.

Marshall received 25 from Ajdin Penava.

C.J. Burks dropped in 18 for the Herd.

Jon Elmore ended the night with 15.

Rondale Watson, a Wake Forest transfer playing in his first game, finished with 10.

Marshall scored 50 points in the second half after trailing by a count of 47-27 at halftime.

The Thundering Herd will be at home on Friday evening to meet up with Eastern Kentucky.
