Konate leads WVU to Backyard Brawl win

    Sagaba Konate's record-breaking performance helped lead West Virginia past Pittsburgh in the Backyard Brawl.

    The Mountaineers (6-3) defeated the Panthers (7-3) 69-59 Saturday afternoon at the Coliseum in Morgantown.

    Konate scored 16 points and pulled in 9 rebounds. The junior also blocked 7 shots, giving him 191 career blocks, which is the most in school history.

    Junior James Bolden led WVU in scoring with 18 points. Senior Esa Ahmad scored 13 for the Mountaineers and pulled down 7 rebounds.

    Pitt freshman guard Xavier Johnson led all scorers with 21 points.

    The Mountaineers now get a week off before they take on Rhode Island on Dec. 16 at home.
