West Virginia tops Marshall in Capital Classic marathon edition
CHARLESTON, W.Va., (WCHS/WVAH) - When two rivals meet, you never know what might happen.
For example, the 13 inning marathon which took place between West Virginia and Marshall, Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park.
The Mountaineers picked up the 11-10 win over the Thundering Herd in the first meeting of the two this season. Kyle Gray singled down the firstbase line to bring in Darius Hill for the go-ahead score.
Marshall had runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but a pop up ultimately closed the long evening in Charleston.
West Virginia (20-18, 4-8) returns to the diamond for a weekend series with Texas in Morgantown.
Marshall ( 17-21, 5-12) heads to Miami to play Florida International in a three-game series.
The Mountaineers and Thundering Herd meet once more this season in Morgantown, May 15.
