Redshirt junior Malik Gant announced Wednesday he will not return to Marshall for his senior season and will be entering the NFL Draft.

Gant announced his decision in a letter to Herd Nation:

In the letter Gant said he has aspired to play in the NFL since he was a child. He thanked Marshall University, the city of Huntington, and his coaches for "three tremendous years."

Gant concluded his letter by saying he is "proud to be able to represent my city of Washington, D.C., Marshall University, my family and most importantly my mother who was been my number one fan from the start!"

Gant has not officially signed with an agent.

A former walk-on, was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the 2018 season and was named to the Conference USA all-conference first team.

The Washington, D.C. native was also named a second team All-American by Pro Football Focus.

Gant has played corner and safety for the Herd and in 2018 was second on the team with 50 tackles. Gant had nine tackles for loss, a sack, eight pass break-ups, and an interception.

During his career, Gant racked up 201 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, a sack, 13 pass break-ups, and two interceptions.

The 2019 NFL Draft will be held on April 25-27 in Nashville.
