Marshall wins shootout against FIU, remains undefeated in conference play

Marshall extended its winning streak to five games and remained perfect in Conference USA play with a win over visiting FIU Saturday night.

The Herd (12-6, 5-0) had five players score in double-figures in its 105-97 win over the Golden Panthers (12-7, 3-3).

Marshall shot 58 percent from the field (37 of 64) and 44 percent (8 of 18) from 3-point range and were led in scoring by senior C.J. Burks.

Burks shot 11 of 15 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range and scored 30 points. He also had six assists and four steals.

Senior Jon Elmore scored 29 points for the Herd on 9 of 19 shooting. He was also 10 of 14 from the free throw line.

Freshman Taevion Kinsey just missed a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore Jarrod West finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds. He also led all players with six steals.

Senior Rondale Watson came off the bench to score 13 for the Herd.

As a team, Marshall had 16 steals and forced 20 FIU turnovers.

FIU also had five players score in double-figures. Junior Devon Andrews paced the Golden Panthers with 23 points.

Junior Osasumewen Osaghae recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

With the win, Marshall remains at the top of the Conference USA standings.

Marshall will now hit the road and look to remain unbeaten in conference play when it travels to Western Kentucky Monday.

The Herd and Hilltoppers faced off just a week ago when Marshall overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat the Hilltoppers 70-69.
