This week’s St. Mary’s Scholar Athletes of the Week are at the top of their game in athletic and in the classroom.

Both student-athletes will be honored before Parkersburg and Huntington square off in the Wendy’s Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.

Senior Jadon Hayes was selected as the Huntington High School Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Hayes is a running back for the Highlander football team who has rushed for 543 yards and 10 touchdowns through the team’s first three games.

Hayes has a 3.9 grade point average and plans to take additions honors classes and dual credit classes in the spring to get college credit.

He said he has not decided on a college, but has received looks from multiple Division I colleges. He plans to major in sports management or engineering.

Matt Fox was selected as the Parkersburg High School Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Fox is a senior wrestler for the Big Reds, and like Hayes, plans to major in engineering when he attends college next fall.

Fox said he has not selected a school to attend yet and will continue to tour different campuses throughout the winter and spring.

As a junior, Fox finished fourth in the state in the 145-pound weight class. This spring, he hopes to compete in the 152-pound weight class.

Hayes and Fox are now finalist to win the St. Mary’s Scholar Athlete of the Year this fall.
