McDonald's facing lawsuit over allegations of fake cheese in mozzarella sticks
A California man is suing McDonald's in federal court over what he said is fake cheese in the company's mozzarella sticks.
Chris Howe is asking for his $1.27 back, and seeking damages for U.S. customers he said were misled. According to Fox News, he is seeking $5 million in damages from the company.
McDonald's website describes the cheese sticks as being made with 100 percent real mozzarella. But the complaint claims that the fast food chain instead uses starch additives and other "filler" ingredients.
Howe filed court documents alleging that tests found the sticks to contain more water and starch than federal food labeling laws allow.
McDonald's has vowed to fight the allegations.
