WVU upsets No. 7 Kansas to pick up first conference win

Mountaineer fans stormed the court Saturday as West Virginia upset No. 7 Kansas in dramatic fashion to pick up its first Big 12 win of the season.

Bouncing back from a five-game losing streak, the Mountaineers (9-9, 1-5) upset the Jayhawks (15-3, 4-2) 65-64 in Morgantown.

With the Mountaineers trailing by two, junior Jermaine Haley drove to the basket and scored on a contested layup to give the WVU a 65-64 lead with just 15 seconds remaining.

Including his game-winning basket, Haley finished the game with 13 points and was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field.

Haley was the only WVU starter to score in double-figures, but the Mountaineers got 28 points from its bench players.

Junior James Bolden came off the bench to score 12 points and freshman Derek Culver came off the bench to score 11 points.

Kansas junior Dedric Lawson and sophomore Marcus Garrett led all scorers with 15 points apiece.

WVU will return to action Monday when the Mountaineers host Baylor at 9 p.m.
