West Virginia DEP: More than 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into Fourpole Creek

According to a spokesperson with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, around 1,000 to 1,300 gallons of diesel leaked from 60 year old pipes leading to Cabell Huntington Hospital. (WCHS/WVAH)

About 1,000 to 1,300 gallons of diesel leaked from some 60-year-old pipes leading to Cabell Huntington Hospital, a spokesperson with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection said.

It is believed the fuel then leaked into storm drain pipes with holes in them, with the rain water eventually pushing the fuel into the drainage system and Fourpole Creek.

On July 4, officials said the DEP, Huntington Sanitary Board and Huntington Fire Department had been investigating complaints in the Enslow Park and Southside areas.

Cabell Huntington Hospital has hired a cleanup company and have removed several boxes of contaminated soil.
