West Virginia water crisis marks five-year anniversary
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Wednesday marks five years since the West Virginia water crisis.
The coal cleaning chemical MCHM spilled on Jan. 9, 2014, from Freedom Industries, contaminating the Elk River drinking water supply for hundreds of thousands of people.
Settlement checks for individual claims went out last year and just this month, pregnancy claims were approved and checks are being sent out.
On Tuesday night, several environmental organizations hosted a forum at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church to explore water-related issues and the impact of water pollution.
