A Nicholas County school principal got a "beary" big surprise recently.

Zela Elementary School Principal James Marsh said he was unlocking a dumpster at the school when a black bear popped out and gave him and another school employee quite the shock.

Marsh said the bear must have trapped itself in the dumpster after squeezing in for a meal and a snack.

The bear could be seen making a run for the woods after emerging from the dumpster. No one was injured in the incident.
