Putnam County deputies said two people were killed overnight after the car they were traveling in struck a tractor-trailer head on, closing U.S. 35 for about three hours.

The wreck occurred north of the adult bookstore, according to a post on the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

The sheriff’s office said the car was traveling south and crossed over into the northbound lane and struck the tractor-trailer.

No identification could be found either of the male occupants of the car, and the sheriff’s office is following up on some leads to confirm identification.

Both bodies were transported to the medical examiner’s office.

Impaired driving is the suspected cause of the accident, the sheriff’s office said.
