Two men were arrested in a prostitution sting the Charleston Police Department has designed to target those attempting to pick up prostitutes.

The sting was conducted Thursday on Charleston’s West Side.

Virgil Elliott, 48, and Johnnie Cremeans, 54, were arrested on Beatrice Street, police said.

The sting by the department’s special enforcement division was initially designed to locate and arrest the “johns” who are trying to pick up prostitutes. So far, the effort has made numerous arrests.

Eight women were arrested in a sting in August. Nine men were arrested in a sting in September. Two men were arrested in October. Other stings have netted more arrests this year.
