Troopers say woman killed in single-car crash in Jackson County, Ohio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a woman died after her car was found upside down in a creek in Jackson County.

Betty Sawyer, 34, of Beaver died Monday, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.

Troopers said her car was discovered about 10:40 a.m. Monday in a creek on Vega Road in Jackson County. Troopers said her car was found on its top in the creek about 40 feet from the road. Troopers believe her car slid off of an ice-covered portion of the roadway and down an embankment. Troopers do not know the exact time of the crash.

Troopers continue to investigate. The Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Madison Township Road Services, Madison Township Fire Department, Wellston Fire Department Water Rescue Team and The Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home responded to the scene.
