The shooting occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 1300 block of Fourth Avenue.

Huntington Police Capt. Hank Dial said a Huntington police officer who was in the area heard gunfire and responded to the scene.

Billy Ray Dabney III, an ex-Marine, said he witnessed the shooting.

"Down here, I mean it's the Wild West," Dabney said. "I mean they are down here shooting it out, doing whatever they are doing you know, being lunatics. When I see innocent people standing around, especially just trying to have a good time and enjoy themselves and you know there's nothing more that I can do than muscle memory."

The area around Fourth Avenue will be closed to traffic while detectives canvass the area.

It’s not known the extent of injuries of the person who was shot.

No arrests have been made at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
