Two large youth sporting events are coming to the Shawnee Sports Complex this year and next year.

The Professional Football Hall of Fame World Youth Championship and the Kanawha County Commission announced in a news release Tuesday that the sports park will host the regional Pro Football Hall of Fame Youth Tournament Nov. 29 through Dec. 2 in 2019, that will feature as many as 48 youth football teams.

Meanwhile, the first West Virginia Youth Football Championship will be held Nov. 23-25 this year at the sports park.

The West Virginia Youth Football Championship is open to all youth football teams in the state with players ages 7 to 14. The registration deadline for the event is Nov. 9.

The regional Pro Football Hall of Fame Youth Tournament will send seven teams to Canton, Ohio, to compete in the 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame Championships. The championship games will be played Dec. 12-Dec. 15, 2019.

“We are thrilled to announce a partnership with the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango said. “The new facilities at Shawnee Park are attracting the very best youth tournaments to Kanawha County. We can’t wait to host these players and their families.”

The national championship games are televised.

“Given its proud football tradition and top football talent, we are thrilled to select Shawnee Sports Complex in West Virginia as a regional site in 2019 and will look to bring more events to Shawnee given the world-class facilities,” said Marc Boldurian, Pro Football Hall of Fame Championship director.
