A Putnam County man is facing a charge after court records say he brought a gun to a youth basketball game Friday at Buffalo High School.

Nathan Robert Boggess of Ripley is charged with possessing deadly weapons on premises of educational facilities, a criminal complaint from Putnam County Magistrate Court said.

A witness saw Boggess sitting in the basketball gym with a firearm hanging out of his back pocket, the complaint said. The witness identified himself to Boggess as a deputy sheriff and showed him his badge, then took possession of the gun. The deputy escorted Boggess out of the gym. Boggess told the deputy he did not know he could not have a gun in the school, the complaint said.

The gun was a Ruger LCP .380 caliber automatic pistol. Court records said the magazine was loaded but did not have a round chambered.
