Putnam County deputies release name of man struck and killed by train
SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Putnam County deputies released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a train after he was walking on the tracks while listening to music with ear buds on.
Tyler Blake Smith, 23, was killed after he was hit about 9 p.m. Sunday in the Beechwood Estates area in Scott Depot, according to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
The wrong name was inadvertently released earlier by the sheriff's office due to a clerical error.
Smith was walking on the tracks and was carrying a skateboard on his shoulder when an eastbound train approached from behind. The conductor blew his horn numerous times up until he was struck by the train.
Deputies said Smith's body was found 23 cars back laying in the middle of the tracks.
