Police say man driving stolen car taken into custody after vehicle pursuit, foot chase

South Charleston police said a man who they believe was driving a stolen vehicle was taken into custody after a crash and foot pursuit.

Samuel Harvey, 19, of Sissonville will face fleeing and possession of a stolen vehicle charges, police said.

Police said the incident began Thursday morning when an off-duty officer spotted a vehicle that he believed was stolen.

The off-duty officer notified police and a pursuit began that went out Jefferson Road and onto Corridor G. Police said the vehicle that was being pursued was trying to enter the Oakwood Road entrance ramp to Interstate 64 when it struck a sport utility vehicle.

The man police said was driving the apparent stolen vehicle jumped over the guardrail. Two officers pursued him on foot and he was taken into custody in the Corridor G-MacCorkle Avenue area.

Police said the man was taken to the South Charleston Police Department for processing and was being transported to Kanawha County Magistrate Court to be arraigned on charges.

The woman who was driving the SUV that was struck by the stolen car was being evaluated at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.
