Police say man charged with rape of child at day care

Ironton police say Clarence Felty, Jr., 40, of Ironton was charged with one count of rape. (Lawrence County Jail)

The Ironton Police Department said a man was charged with the rape of a child at a day care facility.

Clarence Felty, Jr., 44, of Ironton was charged with one count of rape, police said.

Ironton Police said the investigation into this alleged rape started in September after the victim under the age of 13 came forward to their parents.

Police said the alleged abuse took place between March 1, 2017, and July 29, 2018, at the day care. Police said Felty lived at the home, where his girlfriend operated a licensed day care. The state of Ohio has since suspended the license.

Understandably, neighbors are shocked that this happened on their street.

"I didn't know they were up the road from us, so it’s a little bit alarming cause I have kids," said Jenny Hickson.

Felty was arrested Dec. 25, 2018. A Lawrence County Common Pleas judge ordered a GPS monitoring system placed on the suspect until his Feb. 6 pretrial hearing.

Police said they interviewed up to 30 people concerning this case.

Ironton police said they do not know if there are any other victims at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 740-532-5606.
