Man charged with murder in Kanawha County shooting
KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
Kanawha County deputies said a man has been charged after he shot and killed a neighbor who sprayed him with bug spray during an argument.
Randall Douglas Woods, 62, of Clendenin is charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding following a shooting that was reported about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday near Clendenin, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
David Elmore Jr., 31, of Clendenin died at the scene of the shooting, deputies said. Cora Mae Elmore, 38, of Clendenin also was struck by gunfire and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Deputies said the shooting took place in the roadway on Laurel Fork Road during an argument between neighbors. David Elmore was seated in the passenger seat of a pickup truck being driven by Cora Elmore. A third family member was in the rear of the pickup cab. Deputies said Woods was seated on an ATV in the roadway, and another neighbor was arguing with Woods from his own yard.
David Elmore sprayed Woods with bug spray during the argument, and Woods pulled out a firearm and fired it into the pickup truck, striking the Elmores, deputies said.
Neighbors and family members began CPR on David Elmore. First responders made more resuscitation attempts when they arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Cora Elmore has what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.
Woods was detained and taken to the sheriff’s office headquarters and was charged after the sheriff’s office consulted with the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office.
