CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Police said an arrest has been made after Kanawha County man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound Sunday morning.
Eric White, 48, of Charleston, has been charged with malicious wounding after being accused of firing at a man multiple times and striking him once in the lower abdomen, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.
The news release said just before 6 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Virginia Street West where investigators learned a disturbance in an alley led to multiple shots being fired.
Investigators said a 57-year-old Billy Duane Dyess, of Charleston, checked into CAMC Women and Children's Hospital a short time later to receive medical treatment for a gunshot wound.
Dyess claimed White threatened him from a balcony and fired at least four shots in his direction, striking him once in the hip area, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The complaint said White denied his involvement in the shooting but interviews with witnesses and four spent handgun cartridges located underneath the balcony where the shooting was reported linked him to the incident.
White is being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $15,000 bond.
