Four new deputy sheriffs were sworn in Tuesday morning for the Cabell County Sheriff’s Office.

New recruits Ryan Haynie, Dennis Stratton, Hunter Neil and Matthew Baumgardner took the oath at the courthouse. They will go through several weeks of training. Sheriff Chuck Zerkle said this is the first time in 10 years the department has had more than 44 members.

"I think it’s a big deal,” Neil said. “I really started wanting to do it when I was a freshman in high school and when I was a senior, I went to the Junior Trooper Academy."

One new deputy will start in January and the other three will start in April following their training.
