Mountain Health System and CAMC announce affiliation agreement
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Huntington and Charleston hospitals said they will be teaming up to enhance and improve health care in the region.
Charleston Area Medical Center and Mountain Health System, which includes Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center, have entered into an affiliation agreement, the hospitals announced Friday.
“No one is merging or being acquired,” CAMC President and CEO David Ramsey said. “This relationship is a collaborative working agreement. Our organizations have a solid history of working together to tackle health care issues for southern West Virginia and this agreement is a natural evolution of that work."
A news release said the two health systems will continue to run operations separately, but they've agreed to collaborate to expand academic medical care and health care.
“Our two respected teaching organizations have a long history of educating physicians,” Mountain Health Board of Directors Chair Kevin Yingling said. “A cornerstone of the agreement focuses on training and retaining higher quality physicians and health care providers in all areas of medicine. By working together, we can enrich medical care through education, research and clinical trials while benefiting the patients we serve.”
As CAMC and Mountain Health embark on the affiliation agreement, the two will work together to explore in initiatives that enhance the quality of health care and promote community health.
