Mother charged after accused of dragging child toward river

A Kanawha County mother is facing child neglect charge after police said she was using drugs around her young child.

Erica Bailey, 30, of Dunbar is charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury after she dragged her young child while she was under the influence of drugs, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Friday morning, South Charleston police were informed that Bailey was dragging her daughter that was screaming toward the river bank behind Casa Garcia at the River Walk Mall, according to the criminal complaint.

When officers located Bailey, they said was swaying back and forth and holding was holding the child with one arm and nearly dropped her.

The complaint said as they were talking with Bailey they could see track marks on both of her arms consistent with the use of needles and narcotics. They also found two needles, a spoon that had been burned with a lighter in her purse and multiple straws that are consistent with snorting narcotics in her purse.

Bailey is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $5,000. Her child was unharmed and is now in the custody of her grandparents.
