Marshall's Elmore sets career-high in bounce back win over UTEP

Senior Jon Elmore scored a career-high 44 to lead Marshall to a win over UTEP Thursday night.

Bouncing back from the three-game losing streak, the Herd (13-9, 6-3) defeated the Miners (7-13, 2-7) 91-86 at the Cam Henderson Center.

Elmore had 18 points at halftime, but scored 11 of the Herd's first 12 points in the seconds half. The senior scored 26 second-half points to eclipse his previous career-high by six points.

His 44-point performance moves him into a tie for second on Marshall's all-time scoring list, trailing only Skip Henderson.

Elmore also led the Herd with seven rebounds.

Senior C.J. Burks shot 8 of 16 from the field and scored 18 for the Herd.

Sophomore Jannson Williams scored 11 points for the Herd and blocked eight shots.

As a team, Marshall shot 46 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free throw line.

UTEP freshman Efe Odigie led the Miners with 22 points and 20 rebounds. Fellow freshman Nigel Hawkins also scored 22 for the Miners.

The Herd will be back home Saturday when it hosts UTSA at 7 p.m.
