Man fatally shot in McDonald's parking lot in South Point; suspect sought

UPDATE 8:27 p.m.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless has confirmed that the victim in the shooting has died.

At about 4:30 p.m. Lawrence County deputies responded to a shooting in the parking lot of the McDonald's on County Road 406 in South Point and found Joshua C. Jones, 39, on the ground near a vehicle.

Jones was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to a news release from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses told deputies they heard gunshots and saw a white female fleeing the parking lot in a grey or white older model Chevrolet Impala.

“We are actively seeking a person of interest in this case,” Lawless said. “Our investigation leads us to believe that this is a situation of domestic violence, possibly concerning child custody.”

Anyone who sees a vehicle matching the description should call 911.

Deputies in Lawrence County, Ohio are on the scene of a shooting that took place in the parking lot of a McDonald's.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said an adult male was shot at least once at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the McDonald's on County Road 406 in South Point.

The victim was found lying near a vehicle. His condition has not been released at this time.

Witnesses said they saw a female driver leave the scene in a white car, possibly a Chevrolet Impala, according to Lawless. Lawless said the shooting appears to have stemmed from a domestic situation.

No one inside the McDonald's was in any danger according to police.
