Man charged after home invasion, stabbing in St. Albans
ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
A man is facing multiple charges after he is accused of breaking into a St. Albans home early Saturday morning and stabbing the homeowner.
Victor James Hoffman, 47, is charged with burglary, robbery, and assault during the commission of a felony, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 12:40 a.m., the release said Hoffman forced his way into a home on Fifth Street North in St. Albans, stabbed the homeowner, and demanded money.
The homeowner told deputies he had no money and Hoffman left, according to the release. The homeowner identified Hoffman to deputies.
Deputies spotted Hoffman at the intersection of Winfield Road and Swan’s Lane. The release said when deputies tried to speak with Hoffman, he became confrontational and demanded the deputy shoot him.
According to the release, Hoffman refused to comply with instruction and kept his hand in his pocket as if he had a weapon. The release said the deputy was forced to shoot Hoffman with “bean bag” rounds. Hoffman then complied and was taken into custody.
Hoffman is being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
The homeowner was taken to CAMC General to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
