Man accused of punching wife in face while she was holding their baby
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Charleston police said a man faces charges after he was accused of punching his wife in the face while she was holding their 1-month-old baby and the couple’s house was in filthy, unlivable conditions.
Daniel Raines, 31, of Charleston faces domestic battery and child neglect charges after an incident that occurred Thursday at a home on Red Oak Street, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Charleston police said Raines threw his wife on the floor while she was holding the infant and punched her in the face while she was still holding the baby.
Police said the home was in unlivable conditions with trash in the living room. There were dirty diapers lying on the floor, with old food and what appeared to be feces and old wet dog food. The house had a horrible smell, and blood was all over the walls and floors, police said.
The kitchen had dirty dishes, trash and old food on the counter and floor, and the kitchen smelled like rotten food, the complaint said.
Police said when an officer walked into the back bedroom, there was dirty laundry, trash, dirty dishes, dirty diapers and flies all over the place.
In the baby’s room, there was trash, old rotten food, dirty diapers and flies. Police said the baby’s room had more flies and smelled the worst of any room in the house.
Raines is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail on $10,000 bond or 10 percent cash.
