Logan mother accused of drunken driving, crashing with her two kids in the vehicle
LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Logan County deputies said a mother faces multiple charges after she was accused of drunken driving and crashing her vehicle over an embankment with her two children without proper seat restraints in the back seat.
Kala Bryant, 34, of Ethel was arrested at the scene of the crash that occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 17 in Ethel, according to a news release from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to the scene found the vehicle over an embankment and partially in the river.
When they approached the driver, Bryant, she had slurred speech, was uncoordinated, disoriented and had bloodshot eyes, deputies said. The complaint said she registered 0.247 on a preliminary breath test and failed three standard field sobriety tests in which she failed.
Bryant’s kids, ages 6 and 5, were in the back seat of the vehicle without proper seat restraints, the complaint said.
A driver’s history revealed that Bryan’s operators was revoked for unpaid citations.
Bryant was arrested on charges of DUI causing risk of injury, child neglect causing risk of injury and driving while license revoked.
The suspect was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center, where her blood was drawn and she was evaluated. She was then transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for processing and then to the South Western Regional Jail
