The second concert of the season for Moses Auto Group Live on the Levee features a veteran local band and the opening ceremony for Special Olympics.

Mothers Nature Band featuring Lola Spencer will be providing the tunes Friday, June 1, on the Schoenbaum Stage at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston.

The band was founded in 1999 by St. Albans resident Lola Spencer, who describes the group as a party, variety and dance band.

Organizers said the music will start about 6:30 p.m. Mothers Nature will play until about 7:15 p.m. and then take a 15-minute break. The band will then perform another 45-minute set from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

At 8:15 p.m., there will be a 50/50 drawing. Opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics will take place about 8:30 p.m. Eyewitness News' Kennie Bass will make remarks to welcome the athletes and sing the national anthem.

Mothers Nature will take the stage again about 9:15 p.m. to wrap up the evening with a final 15-minute set.

Live on the Levee is a free concert series that offers entertainment on 15 Fridays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. This year’s lineup features 20 first-time performers, 10 national touring acts and seven returning favorites.

Eyewitness News is the exclusive media sponsor of Live on the Levee.

The concert series serves as a fundraiser for five local charities - Covenant House of West Virginia, Manna Meal, the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal, Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center and the YWCA of Charleston.

Every Friday night, representatives from one of these organizations sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds from the raffle are collected throughout the season and divided among the five charities at the end of the year.
