If the workweek gets you in a funk, some funky music in the capital city this weekend might just improve your mood.

The first event in the Moses Auto Group Live on the Levee summer concert series this year features headliner the Charles Walker Band, described as a band with a “neo-funk” sound. A three-piece band based in Milwaukee, the band plays a “fusion of funk-infused rhythms with pop melodies,” according to biographical information on the concert series’ website.

Opening act The Dividends, an alternative rock band that hails from Huntington and Chesapeake, Ohio, will get the music started about 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 25, on the Schoenbaum Stage at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston. The headliner will follow about 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks will cap off the evening’s activities.

Live on the Levee is a free concert series that offers entertainment on 15 Fridays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. This year’s lineup features 20 first-time performers, 10 national touring acts and seven returning favorites.

Eyewitness News is the exclusive media sponsor of Live on the Levee.

The concert series serves as a fundraiser for five local charities - Covenant House of West Virginia, Manna Meal, the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal, Roark-Sullivan Lifeway Center and the YWCA of Charleston.

Every Friday night, representatives from one of these organizations sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds from the raffle are collected throughout the season and divided among the five charities at the end of the year.
