The Pike County Sheriff's Office said a man was found dead near his flooded vehicle.

The body of Donald L. Denny, 58, of Wellston was found in the middle of the roadway about 6:15 a.m. Thursday morning, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.

Deputies said Denny's body was found in the center of State Route 124 in Pike County. Deputies said Denny's vehicle was located about 680 feet past a "Road Closed" sign placed by the Ohio Department of Transportation Wednesday evening due to flooding in the roadway. Deputies said there was evidence that Denny's vehicle was submerged in the floodwater.

Below is the 911 call about the incident:

The Coroner's Office ordered an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. The sheriff's department said it could be related to a heart condition and fighting the swift current or he drowned.

"It’s very unfortunate to receive a call in the early morning hours advising me that someone may have lost their life due to being submerged in flooded waters," Sheriff Charles Reader said. "My office has worked very closely with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Pike County Engineer's Office to insure that safe guards are put into place for the public. No one should ever remove a barricade put in place for the safety of not only themselves, but for other traveling motorist as well. Again, this is very unfortunate due to every step being in place to prevent such a tragedy.”
