The Huntington Police Department welcomed three new recruits to the department Thursday.

A hiring ceremony was held Thursday morning for Nicholas Lane of South Carolina, Michael Lipscom of Michigan and Hun Tak of Alaska.

The officers will now begin a 16-week training course at the West Virginia State Police Academy. The new hires bring the department's staff to 92 sworn officers.

“I was very excited to join this police department,” Michael Lipscomb said. “I heard that it was one of the best in the country. I was excited to get an opportunity to learn and to train with some of the officers here in the Huntington Police Department.”

The department is budgeted for 108 sworn officers and it continues to seek new recruits.
