West Virginia DEP: Preliminary report says two dead, one injured in Barbour explosion

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection said a preliminary report indicates two were killed and one was injured in an explosion in Barbour County.

A preliminary report from Barbour County 911 said workers were prepping a tank for cleaning and were using bleach when the incident happened about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The company's website said it the leading North American expert in natural gas odorization and gas odorents.

Two were dead and the scene, and one was injured.

Barbour County dispatchers said the explosion occurred at the Midland Resource Recovery in Moatsville.

Dispatchers said one patient was flown from the scene as a result of the explosion.

Fire, EMS and law enforcement officials were on scene, dispatchers said.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal, State Medical Examiner, Department of Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are all headed to the scene, dispatchers said.

Officials said they do not believe there is any public danger.
