Deputies: Couple charged after stealing purse, car keys from woman in wheelchair

A man and woman are facing charges after Kanawha County deputies said they stole the purse and car keys Thursday from a woman in a wheelchair.

Timothy “KC” Brown, 37, of Jefferson is charged with petit larceny, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and transferring and receiving stolen property, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Brown also had an active warrant for his arrest, which was served at when he was arrested in this incident.

Brittany Wright, 28, of Charleston is charged with petit larceny and simple possession of heroin. She also is charged with forgery and obstruction after deputies said she was using her sister's identification.

Deputies responded about 7:30 a.m. to the GoMart at 6754 MacCorkle Ave. SW in Jefferson after a report of a male and female stealing a woman’s purse. Deputies said the victim was in a wheelchair and was unable to leave the convenience store because her car keys also were stolen.

A search warrant was obtained and served at Brown’s apartment after deputies reviewed video footage of the theft and received descriptions of the suspects. Both Brown and Wright, his girlfriend, were in the apartment and both were taken into custody, the release said.

The victim’s purse and keys were recovered and returned to her.
