West Virginia American Water crews responded Thursday after a water line break on Hale Street in downtown Charleston.

The break was an 8-inch line, and water is shut down now, said Laura Martin, spokeswoman for the water company.

The 700 block of Hale Street is currently closed.

"Once we finish repairs, we’ll be making some temporary repairs to the road with steel plates, etc. ,and then are working with the city and our paving contractor to start the road repair and resurfacing first thing tomorrow morning if the weather allows," Martin said in an email.
