Charleston City Council looks to attract new business to West Side with zoning changes
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Charleston City Council is looking to attract new business to the West Side with some zoning changes.
Council is changing a residential block to a mixed commercial-residential block that will allow the Shape Shop Cafe to move from the Patrick Street Plaza to its new location on Central Avenue. City leaders hope other businesses will follow suit.
"I think a lot of time when we have mixed us in commercial areas, I think is a good thing. So, it allows for different things to be happening and this is just very consistent with what was going on,” said Mary Beth Hoover with the planning street and traffic committee.
Council also approved the receipt of several county and state grants Monday to help pay for police working with local schools, domestic violence cases and drug enforcement.
