Cabell Midland High School dismissed early Thursday, and a custodian was taken to the hospital after a fire filled the school with smoke.

Students were dismissed about 10 a.m. after an oven caught fire in a food prep class. The building was evacuated, and students were taken to the football field where buses were heading to take students home, according to a news release from the school.

Spokesman Jedd Flowers said a custodian was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Parents have started picking students up. Parents also can pick their kids up at the field. Flowers said everything is OK, and officials are going to let the school air out overnight because there'is too much smoke.

Classes are expected to continue Friday.
