Belfry, Cabell Midland students named St. Mary's Scholar Athletes of the Week

Cabell Midland's Hogan Carter and Belfry's Justin Adkins have been named our St. Mary's Medical Center Scholar Athletes of the Week (WCHS/WVAH)

During halftime of our Wendy’s Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute between Belfry and Cabell Midland, one student from each school will honor for their excellence in athletics as well as in the classroom.

Hogan Carter was named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athlete of the Week for Cabell Midland High School.

The senior plays soccer and baseball for the Knights. Carter said his favorite of the two sports is soccer, which he started playing when he was 3 years old. He has played varsity baseball since his freshman year.

Athletics run in Carter’s genes. He is the son of golfer Pat Carter, who has won 12 West Virginia Amateur titles.

Carter currently has a 4.3 grade point average. He said his favorite subjects are math and science.

Senior Justin Adkins was named the St. Mary’s Medical Center Scholar Athlete of the Week for Belfry High School.

Adkins plays strong safety and running back for the Pirates’ football team, which has won five consecutive Class AAA state championships.

He said he is taking several AP and honors classes and currently has a 4.29 grade point average.

Adkins’ favorite subjects are chemistry and math. He has not picked a college yet but said he plans to go into optometry.
