Arrest made in multi-county pursuit that ended in South Charleston
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
West Virginia State Police arrested a man following a pursuit that spanned two counties and lasted more than an hour Sunday afternoon.
Derek Adkins, 24, was arrested Sunday afternoon on Brounland Road in the South Charleston area after a pursuit that started in the Alum Creek area of Lincoln County, according to State Police in Hamlin.
Troopers in Hamlin were investigating a suspicious vehicle complaint when Adkins took off. Troopers in Lincoln County lost Adkins, but Kanawha County deputies spotted Adkins a short time later in Kanawha State Forest and began to pursue him through Charleston city limits and South Charleston city limits. Charleston police and South Charleston police also took part in the pursuit.
The pursuit continued onto Route 119 to Brounland Road where Adkins drove into a yard and stopped, which is when he was arrested.
Adkins had active warrants for domestic battery and domestic assault and is also now charged with fleeing with reckless indifference and driving with a suspended licence.
Adkins is being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
