Arrest made after stabbing, four hour standoff in Ashland

The Ashland Police Department said officers arrested a stabbing suspect following a four hour standoff early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1600 block of Beech Street early Saturday morning. When they arrived, the victim was located and taken to Kings Daughters Medical Center and is in stable condition.

A release from the department said the suspect was also immediately located and had barricaded himself in an apartment.

After a standoff that lasted about four hour, officers entered the apartment and arrested William J. Cooper, 57, of Ashland.

Cooper is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary.

He is being held in the Boyd County Detention Center without bond.
