Active shooter situation ends with suspect in custody

An active shooter situation Tuesday night in Mercer County ended with two people taken to the hospital and one person taken to jail, facing attempted murder charges.

The call came in to Mercer County 911 about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to a rural area of Beeson Road in the community of Beeson and ended about 10 p.m.

Cpl. J.M. Ellison with the West Virginia State Police detachment in Princeton said a male was shot in the chest and a female suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to the hospital.

The suspect is in custody and is expected to be charged with attempted murder.

State Police are investigating and are not releasing information at this time on what may have prompted the shooting. Eyewitness News will update this story as more information becomes available.
