When Kent and Jennifer Gilkerson started growing strawberries in 2010, they already had a lot of experience. Kent is a third generation strawberry farmer originally from Fayette County. Once they decided to grow them on their new Monroe County farm, they knew the delicious berries would be in high demand...I mean, who doesn't like fresh strawberries?

Sunset Berry Farm and Produce is the Gilkerson's passion, offering you pick strawberries from late May to early June when the fruit is at it's peak ripeness. School groups are also welcome at the farm. Kent, Jennifer, and the rest of the crew teach the kids everything from pollination, planting, to harvest. "A lot of kids don't even know where food comes from," say Jennifer, "it's important for them to know it's not just born in a grocery store." If you'd like to schedule a field trip or check on the availability of strawberries, call the farm at (304) 646-3784.
