Traveling WV: Grandview Rhododendron

Thousands of visitors flock to Grandview every May for the rhododendron bloom. (WCHS/WVAH)

Originally planted in the 1970's, the Catawba Rhododendron shrubs at Grandview in Raleigh County have become an annual spring attraction in southern West Virginia. Visitors come from near and far every spring to photograph and walk among the giant plants.

There's no better place than Grandview to see the West Virginia state flower on steroids! The bloom only lasts a few weeks, but it is well worth a visit.

Several hiking trails are available at Grandview, and the rhododendron line most of them.
