Traveling WV: Best of Crete
Charleston W.Va. —
For 30 years Best of Crete was a fixture at the Charleston Town Center Mall. "I was kind of burned out," says owner Mike Birurakis, "it was time for me to take a break." Fast forward 4 years and Mike was ready to roll again, but on a somewhat smaller scale. Best of Crete re-opened on Charleston's west side, and people went bonkers! "On that first day we had 150 people standing outside waiting, we ran out of food." says Birurakis.
With people gravitating towards a more Mediterranean diet, Best of Crete offers a huge variety on their menu. Gyros, salads, and everything in between are just waiting to be devoured at one of Charleston's most loved eateries. The new location is small and intimate, but that hasn't deterred anyone from rolling in everyday at lunchtime. "I only have 8 chairs in here," says Birurakis, "sometimes I have to tell folks to move over and introduce yourself to your neighbor to make room." Best of Crete is located at 816 Beech Avenue, and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 6pm.
