Restaurant in Charleston shares ways to make your breakfast better

    For this week's Foodie Friday, we were looking to feature a restaurant in the Tri-State area that is known for its breakfast.

    That took us to Swiftwater Cafe in Charleston.

    Teddy Queen opened the cafe 16 years ago. He said he's there for the community.

    "People that work downtown here, we're a daily routine for them," said Teddy Queen, owner of Swiftwater Cafe.

    Meghann Ferguson, who works downtown, said she stops in for breakfast several times a week.

    "My favorite thing on the menu is the 'My Breakfast Sandwich," said Ferguson. "I get it on the way to work at least three days a week."

    Some of the most popular items on the menu are the Big Breakfast Platter and breakfast burritos.

    "They need something that's got some body to it," said Queen. "They usually come in for a bacon, egg and cheese croissant or a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit."

    If you have a sweet tooth, they also make homemade banana bread and cinnamon rolls.

    For a healthier option, there's fresh fruit and a vegetarian breakfast.

    "That's all we try to do is meet the demand of the community, offer a new standard of customer service in town," Queen said.

    The regulars appreciate the homey feel.

    "It's just like eating in your own community little diner," said Ferguson. "It's really nice to know people and to be known by name as you walk in, to have them say, 'You want the regular?' Really take care of you in the mornings on your way to work."

    If you're trying to make your breakfast at home better, Queen recommends using plenty of fresh ingredients.
